Your First Day

When you arrive in New York City, you should come to the school on your first day of class, usually a Monday. Please come one hour before your class starts. If your class starts at 10:00 am, please come at 9:00 am. If your class starts at 11:45 am, please arrive at 10:45 am. You should come prepared with a pen and paper and be ready to learn!

Step 1- Registration and Documents

We will review your registration information to make sure everything is in order. We will ask you for original copies of your documents, if necessary. If you have an F-1 visa, please bring your:

  • Passport
  • I-20
  • Original bank statement/letter
  • Original affidavit of support (if necessary)
  • Health insurance

Step 2- Placement Test

You will then take a placement test to decide your level. The test will take about 30 minutes and has a written and a speaking part. Don’t be nervous, this test just helps us place you in the level that’s right for you.

Step 3- Textbooks

You will buy textbooks for your Speaking and Listening and Integrated Skills classes. Each textbook usually costs between $20 and $45, depending on the level and you will use them for the entire level.

Step 4- Class

Then it is time to have your first class at Manhattan Language!

Step 5- Student Orientation

On your second day, usually a Tuesday, you must attend Student Orientation. This is a meeting for new students where you will learn important information about the school, your visa, and life in New York City. This meeting is very important and you must come!

We look forward to meeting you!
